SMH this morning mentioned an idea to try and combat road conjestion in Sydney. Basically they suggested free train travel before 7am.

My take on it would be that we should be encoraging travel out of the CBD, not more travel into the CBD. Perhaps if you could get off any non-CBD station before 7am for free it would encorage businesses to locate elsewhere because it benefits their employees.

There are too many empty trains heading out of the city in the morning peak hour. This is a wasted recource.

The electronic ticketing system is also about twenty years overdue. This would enable such flexible charging schemes and such schemes would encourage the use of the electrionic ticketing.

WHat do you guys think? Can we solve the transport woes of our cities here please?
